It's My Birthday! I'm 28!

Bootsie: “If you only see 10 million movies this year, make sure this isn't one of them.”

So that’s me, 28 years ago. I still have that bear and I had rolled onto my side all by myself. Mom tells me the nurses were exasperated because I wouldn’t stay on my back. Anyway, that’s me. 8 lbs, 10 oz, 21 inches long

Today is my birthday. I am 28 years old.

I feel like today is a new start for me, for whatever reason. There are some changes I want to make. I’ve decided not to berate or belittle myself about living with my mom. I love my mom -- she is an amazing woman and I wish I had just some of her strength.

Don’t get me wrong, I still plan to incorporate wry and self-deprecating comments about still living with my mommy. By the way? My mom could totally kick you mom’s ass.

Also, I won’t lie, this is not part of some grand epiphany. Mom and I are still going to argue over things as inconsequential as laundry baskets and cat litter. I’m just done wasting time being embarrassed over silly things and things I have no control over.

Speaking of changes ... Nick and I are not whatever it was that we were. He’s found someone closer to his age and I wish them the best. All we ever did was hang out or go to movies, mostly because it’s no fun going alone.

I don’t think I ever really like-liked him, anyway. I just had fun with him and I wanted a relationship. Which I didn’t get with him. But, you know, whatever.

I guess I need to work on me and let God take over the relationship area. There ya go. It’s out of my hands.

Someone’s birthday is coming up soon, but I can’t remember who and it’s driving me batty. I’ve been through all my friends and family that have March birthdays to no avail. For whatever reason, I think it’s on St. Patrick’s Day.

Man, it’s driving me nuts! Oh well, I’ll figure it out when whoever it is angrily calls me and yells at me for forgetting their birthday.

Excellent strategery, no?

Bootsie had to work tonight, so we celebrated my birthday yesterday.

I requested a scrum-diddly-umptious dinner of bbq ribs, mashed potatoes and a big ol' salad. My sister makes some amazing ribs, even though she prefers pork and I prefer beef. She made pork ribs tonight, but they were so good.

We had cake with a whipped cream frosting and that was good, too. The candles left something to be desired, but they were amusing. A "2", a "7" and a "1" --we didn't have an "8", so Bootsie improvised.

I received:

- 1 pair of black Chuck Taylors
- 1 pair of denim Mary Jane's
- a 6-pack of socks
- 2 pairs of shorts
- an ELVIS puzzle
- My Big Dinosaur Book
- Jurassic Park: Operation Genesis, a computer sim game
- a new Bible, because my other one somehow disappeared.

So, happy birthday to me!
